Contemplating Divorce?

Before you go see an attorney to file for divorce, make sure you’ve thought it through. Did you already seek therapy/counseling? Is there anything you can do to save your marriage? How can you make the divorce as amicable as possible to reduce the use of your financial resources? How can you minimize the conflict and not involve the children so that they are not traumatized by the already emotional process? How can you put the conflict behind you and create a respectful relationship where you can co-parent? Remember that marriage is not always rainbows and butterflies. Every marriage has problems- yes even the “perfect” ones! Remember that you signed up to be there in sickness and in health til death do you part. Did you try hard enough to overcome the obstacles and the stressors? As attorneys who do divorces day in and day out, we sometimes lose sight of the fact that the family unit is the foundation of society. Stable marriages mean stable children and a more stable community. Make sure you have done everything you can to salvage your family unit before deciding to let go.
